Take a Chance, by Abbi Glines

THIS BOOK CONTAINS EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT AND COURSE LANGUAGE (18+)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Info on the series:
This is book 1 of 2 in the "Chance" series. The "Chance" books are part of Abbi Glines' "Rosemary Beach" collection. Other books from Rosemary Beach are the 3 (soon to be 4) "Too Far" (Rush and Blaire) books and the 2 "Perfection" (Woods and Della) books. Each series tells the tale of a different couple and could be read separately. If you wish to read them all, I suggest starting with "Too Far", then "Perfection", then "Chance". The various series are linked to each other mainly through the male characters, who are all part of the same group of friends. Most characters appear in all the books. These are contemporary new adult romance with explicit sexual content (18+). The characters are mostly in their 20's.

My review:
Since Grant was one of my favorite characters from the very first chapter of the 1st Rosemary Beach book (Fallen Too Far), my expectations for this book were really high. I didn't get the chills, shivers and tears I was expecting (I cried so much with Fallen Too Far) but I enjoyed the book nonetheless. I love Grant. He oozes sexiness and he's cocky yet über friendly to everyone. Following the events of "Simple Perfection", Grant is shaken up and has issues that he needs to work through. Harlow, as with all Rosemary Beach girlfriends so far, is young, sweet and innocent and has issues of her own that prevent her from falling freely for Grant's charms. The first half of the book was a bit predictable, repetitive and lagging (I had no trouble putting it down) but the end was gripping and surprising (I had a lump in my throat towards the end). As with most Abbi Glines books, "Take a Chance" is a sexy read and contains explicit content that can make you blush. The story is told in the 1st person, alternating between Harlow and Grant's point of view. Having reached the end of "Take a Chance", I am looking forward to reading the sequel. This book continues setting up the story for Bethy and Tripp for their eventual book(s). It took me 7 hours to read "Take a Chance".

Kiro, Harlow's father and lead signer of the world famous group "Slacker Demon", surprised me so much! Oh. My. Gosh! He tugged on my heartstrings! This is the kind of unpredictability that I like in a book.

Synopsis:

When Harlow Manning's rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan's room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He'd known about Nan's reputation, but still he couldn't resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow's eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?
